popular because it will not continue to tighten around the dogs' neck
but yet remain firm but comfortable not allowing the dog to in any way
get out of it.

Choke chain collar...this is the dog collar that started the whole
revolution of maintaining control over the dog while training. There
have been many scientific advances since the creation of this type dog
collar that the choke chain collar has really outlived its usefulness.
Not that manufacturers are not making them, it's just that there are
so many better type dog collars that will secure the dog and also
allow the message to be taken by the dog for control purposes.

These choke chains really did the trick in letting the dog know that
they had done something opposite to the handler's commands. By pulling
on the collar itself would essentially tighten around the dog's neck
and remain tightened until pressure was released by the handler. This
can be good and can be bad. If the dog was a fighter and wouldn't let
go the dog would almost choke to death. Hence the name choke chain but
times have changed and there are much better methods and dog collars
that are on the market that essentially give the dog the same message
without undue harm or that much pressure put on them.
